Festival to showcase drivers

The Leadfoot Festival returns to the Coromandel on Waitangi Weekend, and will showcase “the most significant and outstanding drivers” from around the world selected by motorsport driver Rod Millen. Two Subarus will act as pace cars for the race up Millen’s mile-long purpose-built driveway, along with two “special” cars competing. Scottish rally driver Alister McRae will drive in a 1998 Vantage Motorsport Subaru, while the marque’s brand ambassador Ben Hunt will pilot a 1999 Subaru WRX STi Coupe. Hunt, who is competing for a second year, says: “I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone there from different forms of motorsport around New Zealand and the celebrities coming from overseas”. Craig Vincent, Vantage Motorsport principal, says the company is excited to have McRae competing again. “He is an amazing driver and ambassador for whoever he’s associated with and just a top bloke”. Along with the race, Subaru will display the latest models on site, including the Levorg, XV Crossover and limited-edition WRX Hyper Blue. Drivers who show their Subaru car keys at the marque’s tent on the day will get a cushion to sit on. Wallis Dumper, Subaru of NZ’s managing director, says the Leadfoot Festival is a great platform to display the brand. “We see it as a perfect dual fit having our performance cars doing what they do best out on track, while allowing people to peruse our latest model cars at their leisure.” The festival takes place on February 6-7 with gates opening at 7am. Racing takes place on both days with The Warratahs putting on a concert at 6.30pm on the Saturday.
