Death linked to Takata inflators

Authorities in India are investigating if a death in a crash is related to a faulty Takata airbag inflator.
The driver of a 2007 Honda Civic was killed in an accident last year, but the authorities have yet to determine whether the cause of death was due to the airbag exploding and spraying metal fragments, or from injuries related to a high-speed crash. If the inflator is the cause, it will be the 11th death worldwide caused by Takata systems.

The death may also spark a recall of 2007 Civics. Honda spokesman, Chris Martin, says while both the driver and passenger airbag inflators exploded in the crash, inflators in the US are different from those used in India.

Takata has declined to comment on the case, but a spokesman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the types of inflators used in the crash are being recalled.
