Dealership in investigation

Christchurch dealership Cockram Nissan is investigating a possible fraud at the company. The Press reported that the investigation was initiated by dealership owners about six months ago. Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti says that police received a complaint in December alleging “a significant fraud has occurred [at a] motor vehicle franchise”. “We’re not actively investigating it [the complaint]. We’re waiting on documentation from the complainant.” Forensic accounting staff are going through records to look for further evidence and several dealers had been contacted by Cockram Nissan representatives in relation to the investigation. Cockram Nissan general manager, Jacob Wilson, confirmed an internal investigation was underway. “We are currently in the middle of an investigation and I have no comment to make, sorry. “I would ask that you please be respectful of this process before you print any unsubstantiated allegations.” The dealership was founded by Bill Cockram in 1946. It was bought by Bruce Miles in 1983 and is currently owned by Miles and Murray Cleland. Miles also owns the Miles Toyota dealership in Christchurch.
