Safety data on used cars
DEKRA has announced the results of its 2015 used car report, which evaluates vehicle faults using data from more than 15 million inspections conducted over two years. “Our used car report provides detailed information about the typical faults of particular models,” says Dr Gerd Neumann, of DEKRA’s management board. “At the same time, it ranks each vehicle in relation to similar models in the same market segment.” The report does not take into account typical problems resulting from maintenance, such as worn-out tyres and wiper blades or defective exterior mirrors. “Figures for a particular model are only displayed in the report if we have checked at least 1,000 vehicles of this model in the relevant mileage range over the evaluation period.” Each vehicle is ranked with a Dekra Fault Index (DFI). It calculates the percentage of vehicles without relevant faults as well as the percentage of vehicles with significant faults.
