BMW dips into car pooling

Posted on 25 May, 2016

BMW has become the latest automaker to invest in ride-sharing technology, by investing in car-pooling service, Scoop. The German automaker’s venture capital arm, iVentures, has invested an undisclosed amount in the California-based Scoop Technologies. Scoop connects people who live in the same neighbourhood and work near each other to arrange carpools. It is currently operating in San Francisco. The app is the latest investment from the marque, which has previously invested in ride-hailing, connected-vehicle technology and mobility ventures, which allows people to move around without relying on a vehicle they own. BMW joins Toyota and General Motors, who have also invested in ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft, respectively.
