Big win for Ports of Auckland

Posted on 22 June, 2016

Ports of Auckland was recognised as the ‘Best Seaport in Oceania’ at the Asian Freight, Logistic and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards. It was the only port in New Zealand to be nominated for the award, with chief executive Tony Gibson extremely pleased that the hard work of employees had been recognised. “I am immensely proud of our people here at Ports of Auckland. Our people are world-class, innovative, creative and hard-working. Night and day, in fair weather and foul, they get the ships in and out and ensure that Aucklanders have access to the goods they want and need. It is fantastic that their efforts have been internationally recognised.” The ‘Best Seaport in Oceania’ award was introduced as a new category this year. Other finalists were Port of Melbourne, Port of Brisbane and Sydney Ports. Finalists were judged on several areas including efficiency, truck turnaround times and container shipping-related infrastructure – investment in new infrastructure to meet future demand was also evaluated. The AFLAS Awards recognised air and shipping lines, air and seaports, as well as logistic providers and industry professionals.
