B-series in recalls

Posted on 10 February, 2016

The Mazda B-Series pick-up has been added to the widening number of vehicles recalled in the US for faulty Takata inflators in driver-side frontal airbags in trucks from the 2004-06 model years. While there have been no reports of crashes or injuries reported, around 19,000 vehicles are affected by the recall in the US, Puerto Rico and Saipan. Mazda previously recalled B-series trucks from the 2007-09 to replace their passenger-side frontal airbag inflators. The latest recall brings the number up to more than 850,000 vehicles recalled by Mazda for faulty inflators.

Marque issues order to stop selling cars

Honda has issued a stop-sale notice to its dealerships in the US with a warning that they could face “legal exposure” for unrepaired vehicles if they violate it. The order affects 1.7 million new and used vehicles in the US, which contain Takata’s faulty airbag inflators. The marque says in a memo to dealerships: “Should an unrepaired vehicle result in any claim because of the required recall repair, the dealership will be solely responsible to the claimant, and will be required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims.” The order only applies to the marque’s dealerships, with independent used-car dealers not affected by the warning. The stop-sell notice includes the 2007-11 CR-V, 2011-15 CR-Z coupe, 2009-13 Fit, 2013-14 Fit EV, 2010-14 Insight hybrid and 2007-14 Ridgeline, which will also be recalled. A Honda spokesman says the marque is still determining which specific vehicles are affected by the call backs. Until they are identified, customers won’t be able to use Honda’s online database to check if their vehicles are part of the recall.
