On Tuesday Japanese authorities announced they are conducting safety checks at a Kobe Steel Ltd aluminum plant. This comes after the revelations of wide-spread tampering in the specifications of its products that have sent shock waves through several industries, including the auto industry. The inspection of the Kobe Steel Plant in Tokyo was focusing on the safety of components being used in a Mitsubishi Regional Jet being developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. Kobe Steel shares have fallen about 36% since the scandal broke last week.
